Things that make me go ahh!

It’s been a week where I’ve had to go and consciously find things that have made me sigh with contentment.

I know if I consciously go and look for things that make me happy or grateful my head space is better off. Normally it’s the gym that does that, or a long walk with Shadow, but this week I needed more. I had a bit of a hiccup with my novel The Syndicate that I wanted to submit to my publisher last week. I found a great big plot hole in it and that really threw me off kilter. So I’m working very hard to fix that problem and relax by finding things that make me go ahhh!

Here’s my list:

Border collie called Shadow letting me pat her ears

Shadow

Shadow’s ears are really soft and I love patting them! She doesn’t mind being patted either, so it’s a win-win situation for us!

Pink bottle brush flowers with a native garden backdrop

You can’t go past pink bottle brushes. I’ve got a heap of red bottle brush trees down the back yard, but they’re not flowering yet. These guys are on the way to Shadow’s kennel and I see them every day. I always stop to feel the bristles and just look at them. My dad’s favourite flower is bottle brushes and so these make me think of him daily. Not that I need a reason!

Pink kangaroo paws in an old wheelbarrow

And how could you not love these Kangaroo Paws? This wheelbarrow was my mother-in-law’s before she died. Again, it’s something that often makes me think of her. Most things in my garden have some kind of memory or meaning attached to them. At the front of my house I have five roses that my best friend gave me. for Christmas. I placed them all just out side my bedroom window so I could smell their perfume. They’re not flowering at the moment either, but they do have a lovely lot of new growth on them.

Computer on kitchen table with papers and notebooks

If everything around me is messy then my brain feels messy, but it doesn’t matter how much I try as I get closer to finishing a book, my work area gets messy! See that candle? it has the most gorgeous scent of coconut and it’s my favourite candle at the moment. There won’t be much left by the time this books goes in.

What made you go ahh this week?
